I have been a professional forest / forest consultant since 1993. I have 4 degrees in forestry and a concentration in natural resource economics. I love working with woodland owners and extending their knowledge and appreciation of sustainable woodland management. I have taught forestry and geospatial technologies at Haywood Community College for over 15 years and have over 8 years at NCSU Extension Forestry providing education and outreach to landowners, natural resource professionals and forest industry for over 8 years.
I develop detailed forest management plans for landowners suitable for the Forest Stewardship program, NC Tree Farm Program (and other forest certification programs), and county tax deferment programs. I love to work one-on-one with landowners providing them with important information about their land and help them chart the best route for achieving their woodland ownership goals. An example of my work here.
While at NC State Extension Forestry, I used my strong geospatial skills to develop methods of performing detailed site analysis (AKA "woodbasket analysis") for potential forest industries. These are based on current forest ownership trends, woodbasket growth and harvest rates and competing facilities. I have performed over 40 such site analyses, each tailored uniquely to client specifications. An overview of the such analysis found here.

I am a mechanical engineer by formal training and career. I hold a masters degree in Engineering. I have become interested in natural resource management and received a Technical Degree in Forest Management in 2018. I find my unique skill set is useful in the forest planning process - particularly when strong analytical skills are necessary, I am an adjunct instructor in Haywood Community College's Natural Resources Department . I am also a member of an HOA and realize the great need these associations have in better understanding the proper management of their prized woodlands.
